Safeguarding Policy

At Just Starting Out, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all users of our platform. Whilst we do not directly oversee the services delivered by our members, we take our responsibility seriously when it comes to promoting respectful, lawful and protective conduct.

This Safeguarding Policy outlines the standards we expect all users to follow to ensure that all interactions remain appropriate, respectful, and free from harm.

  1. Who This Policy Applies To

    This policy applies to:

    • Professionals offering services through the Just Starting Out platform
    • Customers using the platform to request or receive services
    • Any third party acting on behalf of a user

  2. Our Commitment to Safeguarding

    Just Starting Out is committed to:

    • Promoting a culture of respect, fairness, and dignity
    • Raising awareness of safeguarding expectations
    • Preventing abuse, exploitation, harassment, or harm in all forms
    • Responding promptly and appropriately to any safeguarding concerns raised

  3. Expectations for All Users

    All users must:

    • Treat others with respect and professionalism
    • Avoid any behaviour that could be perceived as threatening, abusive, manipulative, or inappropriate
    • Never exploit, intimidate, or attempt to take advantage of another user in any way
    • Use clear, respectful communication both online and in person
    • Immediately report any concerns or misconduct to authorities (if relevant), as well as ourselves via the email address at the bottom of this policy

  4. Appropriate Behaviour

    We expect that:

    • Users will not engage in any form of inappropriate or illegal behaviour (in person or online), including verbal, physical, emotional, or sexual misconduct
    • Customers will treat professionals with courtesy and avoid any language or conduct that could be deemed abusive, controlling, or exploitative
    • Neither party will pressure or coerce the other into any activity outside of the agreed service

    Any behaviour of this nature may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from the platform.

  5. Lone Working and In-Home Services

    Most services provided through Just Starting Out take place one-to-one, and many in customers' homes. We encourage:

    • Professionals to share service locations or bookings with a trusted contact
    • ustomers to ensure someone is aware of a professional's visit if they feel more comfortable doing so
    • Both parties to set clear expectations ahead of time, including timing, location, and the nature and cost of the service

    If at any point either party feels unsafe, the service should be paused and reported to us at the email address at the bottom of this policy.

  6. Working with Young Adults and Vulnerable Individuals

    While our platform is for users aged 18 and above, we ask professionals to be especially mindful when working with:

    • Young adults aged 18-21 who may require additional support
    • Individuals with additional needs or vulnerabilities

    Professional conduct, patience, and clarity are essential at all times.

  7. Breach of Policy

    Breaches of this policy may result in:

    • A warning or temporary suspension
    • Permanent removal from the platform
    • Referral to appropriate authorities, where necessary

  8. On-going Responsibility

    Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. By using Just Starting Out, you agree to uphold the standards outlined in this policy and help us create a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

  9. Reporting Concerns

    If you witness or experience behaviour that raises safeguarding concerns , including harassment, abuse, or exploitation -we urge you to report it to us as soon as possible by emailing safeguarding@juststartingout.co.uk

    All reports will be treated seriously, sensitively, and confidentially. We reserve the right to suspend or remove users pending investigation.
